Most instructors teach these two verbs this way separately , then together which can be confusing. My point was not to clarify their usage which is easily memorized but to better or more readily determine which actions were "quickly" changeable rather than just using solely the term "temporary. When debating, as we do in this case, whether the action is "temporary", one only needs to ask...Is the action "quickly" changeable". If it is then estar is the verb. Simple and works most of the time. The operative word in this case for "estar" is "quickly". Can the action "quickly" change? If so estar is used 99% of the time.
